In case you missed it, our first rule is Consistency is king. We explain it right here. At CrossFit Actus, our second rule is simple but powerful:
Something is better than nothing.
It might sound obvious, but this rule is the difference between people who make steady progress for years and people who constantly feel like they’re starting over.
The Problem With “All or Nothing” Thinking
Many people believe workouts only count if they’re:
- Long
- Hard
- Intense
- Perfect
- Exactly as planned
Life gets busy and work runs late, kids need you, energy is low, motivation disappears it’s so easy to skip the workout entirely.
That’s not a motivation problem.
That’s an expectation problem. It’s a totally different problem.
Why Something Always Wins
Doing something, even when conditions aren’t ideal, keeps three critical things alive:
- The habit of showing up
- Momentum
- Your identity as someone who trains
It also feeds into our first rule at CrossFit Actus, by doing something you’re being consistent. “A short workout reinforces the same habit as a long one.
And habits — not heroic efforts — drive long-term results. The book Atomic Habits is a great read to really drive home the power that habits can have on our lives.
What “Something” Can Look Like
At CrossFit Actus, something can mean many things. It might mean:
- A 10–15 minute workout instead of 60
- Scaling loads or movements more than usual
- Making weights lighter and more manageable
- Moving slower and focusing on quality of the movements
- Coming in just to row, bike, or move your body around
- Showing up even when you don’t feel at your best
None of these are failures.
They are wins.
Why This Rule Prevents Burnout
People don’t quit fitness because it’s hard.
They quit because they feel like they’re failing.
When you believe every workout has to be perfect, missing one feels catastrophic.
But when you live by something is better than nothing, you remove the pressure — and pressure is what burns people out.
This rule gives you permission to adjust without quitting.
Consistency Beats Intensity
You don’t need to train hard every day.
You need to train often and regularly.
A scaled workout today makes tomorrow’s workout easier to show up for.
Zero workouts today makes tomorrow’s workout harder to start.
That’s why consistency — supported by this rule — always wins.
Real Progress Is Built on Imperfect Days
The workouts that change your life aren’t always the ones you remember.
They’re the ones you almost skipped — but didn’t. Nobody ever leaves Actus sad they showed up and worked out.
Those days stack up.
And over months and years, they quietly create results.
How We Use This Rule at CrossFit Actus
We don’t punish busy schedules.
We don’t expect perfection.
We help members find the best option for that day — because showing up in some capacity is always the right answer.
That’s how fitness becomes sustainable.
That’s how people stay consistent.

Something is better than nothing.
